Ancestry.com has a new database titled UK & IRELAND, MEDICAL DIRECTORIES, 1845-1942.  These directories include four doctors that have Greek names and were working in Greece.   Note:  There are probably more doctors that do not have the word Greece in the description and I could not identify them without looking at each entry in the many directories.  If you have an ancestor that was a physician and worked in the UK, Ireland or Scotland this maybe a resource you could search by name. Ancestry.com has a database titled 1861 England Census that includes 530 people who claim Greece as their place of birth .  (Note:  Ancestry.com is a subscription website, however most people can access this program for FREE through their local library) FamilySearch.org also has a FREE database titled England and Wales 1861 Census that includes 264 people who claim Greece as their place of birth. Keep in mind that some of these people where British subjects born in Greece. Ancestry.com has a database online that is titled - UK AND IRELAND, MASTERS AND MATES CERTIFICATES, 1850-1927 which includes 29 entries for people who listed Greece as their place of birth. The  FamilySearch.org  website offers FREE access to their database - UNITED KINGDOM, MERCHANT NAVY SEAMEN RECORDS, 1835-1941   .  There are 3,559 people in the database who have listed Greece as their place of birth. DESCRIPTION OF DATABASE by FamilySearch.org An act of Parliament required agreements and crew lists to be filed with the Register Office of Merchant Seamen to create a means of manning the Royal Navy in wartime. Registration of merchant seamen was provided for in the 1835 Merchant Shipping Act. Seamen were engaged by the voyage at this period, and there was no permanent merchant service. The registers were made up from the new returns of agreements and crew lists for each voyage. In 1857 the use of seamen’s registers was discontinued. This collection includes records for the years 1835 to 1857. I was browsing through Ancestry.com databases and found that there were over 1,700 Greeks listed in the Calendar to England & Wales Probate Records.    Above are two examples of what an entry may look like.  They definitely look like they could lead to some very interesting information.  "This collection contains summaries of the vast majority of probate cases in England and Wales between 1858-1966.  It effectively forms an index to wills and probate records for this period." Published in  The New York Times, July 31, 1898 A GREEK CHURCH IN OLD LONDON ---------- From  Notes and Queries. ---------- In 1676 one Joseph Georgeirenes, Archbishop of Samos, came to London to obtain assistance in publishing a book of devotions for the use of the Orthodox community.  He found his compatriots at the west end of London without a church, and on his application Compton, Bishop of London, gave him a piece of ground in Soho Fields on which to build one.  The Bishop’s name, by the way, is still preserved in that of the adjacent Compton Street, as also, in Frith Street, is the name of one Mr. Frith, who acted for his Lordship in the matter.  Georgeirenes succeeded in collecting some 1,500 pounds, and the church was ultimately built.  It was dedicated to St. Mary the virgin, and over its door was placed a stone incised inscription, which exists, in excellent preservation, to this day.  It is in rather fantastic modern Greek ch...
