This collection contains indexes to passenger lists of vessels arriving at New York, New York. The records were compiled between 1897 and 1902. It corresponds with NARA series T519. The cards are arranged in alphabetical order and contain such information as name, date and place of birth, sex, occupation, nationality, place of last residence, etc. Passenger arrival lists, or customs manifests, date back to 1820. The first official emigration station for New York was Castle Garden, located at the tip of lower Manhattan. DESCRIPTION This collection contains over 455,000 manifests and related index cards of permanent and temporary alien arrivals at Nogales, Arizona, 1905-1952. The cards are arranged alphabetically by surname and include such information as name, age, gender, marital status, occupation, citizenship, race, last permanent residence, birthplace, etc. The original records were filmed by the INS in August-October 1956 and then destroyed. The microfilms were later transferred to the National Archives under NARA publication M1769.

This is the first time I've seen records for passengers and crew departing the U.S.   It doesn't cover everything so make sure you check the sources listed below. Ancestry.com has a database titled All U.S., Departing Passenger and Crew Lists, 1914-1966.  It includes 21,874 people recorded as being born in Greece and 5,362 born in Turkey,  Description: These passenger and crew departure lists from both ships and aircraft were recorded on a variety of forms that were then turned over to the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Details requested on the forms varied, but they typically include the name of the vessel, departure date, ports of departure and destination, shipmaster, full name, age, gender, physical description, military rank (if any), occupation, birthplace, citizen of what country, and residence.
